Athlete Profile
Dame Flora Jane Duffy DBE, Bermuda's triathlon sensation, has etched her name in the annals of sports history. Born on 30 September 1987, Duffy's athletic prowess led her to clinch the gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, marking Bermuda's first-ever Olympic gold and making the nation the smallest to achieve this feat. Her Olympic journey spans Beijing, London, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo. Beyond the Olympics, Duffy shone at the Commonwealth Games, securing gold in both 2018 and 2022.
Duffy's accolades don't end there. She's a two-time ITU World Triathlon Series World Champion and a six-time XTERRA World Champion. In 2016, she achieved a remarkable trifecta, winning the WTS, ITU Cross Triathlon, and Xterra titles, becoming the only triathlete to do so. Duffy's unparalleled skills are evident as she's the sole triathlete in WTS history to lead in swim, bike, and run segments in a single race. Her record-breaking margins in Olympic and Sprint distances further underscore her dominance.
Recognizing her monumental contributions to sport, Duffy was honored as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2018 and elevated to Dame Commander (DBE) in 2022. Her recent crowning achievement came in November 2022 in Abu Dhabi, where she was declared the ITU Triathlon World Champion. Dame Flora Duffy's journey is a testament to dedication, excellence, and the spirit of Bermuda.
