Greatest pre-game speech ever

It's difficult to pinpoint one single greatest pre-game speech ever, as there have been many memorable and inspiring speeches delivered by coaches throughout history. However, here is one example of a famous pre-game speech that has become iconic: The speech was delivered by former Notre Dame head coach Knute Rockne before the 1928 Army game. It is often referred to as the "Win One for the Gipper" speech, and it has become one of the most famous speeches in sports history. The speech was inspired by the story of George Gipp, a former Notre Dame player who had died several years earlier.

Here is the transcript of the speech:

"Men, I'm going to tell you something I've kept to myself for years. None of you ever knew George Gipp. It was long before your time. But you know what a tradition he is at Notre Dame. And the last thing he said to me, 'Rock,' he said, 'sometime when the team is up against it and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper.' I don't know where I'll be then, Rock,' he said, 'but I'll know about it, and I'll be happy.' All right, let's go out and do it for the Gipper."

Rockne's speech is powerful because it connects the players to the rich history and tradition of Notre Dame football, and it invokes the memory of a beloved former player who had given everything for the team. By framing the game as an opportunity to honor Gipp's memory and legacy, Rockne inspires his players to give their all and play with passion and determination.

The speech is also effective because it is short and to the point. Rockne doesn't waste any words or try to overcomplicate things - he simply delivers a clear and powerful message that resonates with his players. This is a great lesson for anyone trying to deliver an effective pre-game speech: keep it simple, authentic, and focused on a clear goal or message.
