The Feedback Burger

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Bermuda is our beautiful island in the North Atlantic with a rich sporting culture. BLTAD.ORG is dedicated to promoting and developing sports on the island. As part of its mission, the group is always looking for innovative ways to help athletes develop and excel in their respective sports. One model that has proven to be effective in athletics development is the Feedback Burger model. In this blog post, we will explore how the Feedback Burger model can be used by the Bermuda NSGB’S to enhance athletic development on the island.

What is the Feedback Burger model?

The Feedback Burger model is a simple yet effective method for providing feedback to athletes. It consists of three layers:

  1. The top layer is positive feedback. This layer highlights what the athlete did well and should continue to do.

  2. The middle layer is constructive feedback. This layer identifies areas for improvement and suggests ways to make those improvements.

  3. The bottom layer is positive feedback again. This layer reinforces the athlete's strengths and gives them the confidence to work on the areas for improvement.

The Feedback Burger model is an excellent tool for coaches, trainers, and mentors to use when working with athletes. It helps to build a positive relationship between the coach and athlete while also providing valuable feedback that can help the athlete improve their performance.

How can the Feedback Burger model be used in athletics development in Bermuda?

The NSGB’S can use the Feedback Burger model in several ways to help athletes develop and excel in their respective sports. Here are a few examples:

  1. Performance evaluation: Coaches can use the Feedback Burger model to evaluate an athlete's performance in a particular game or competition. They can start with positive feedback, highlighting the athlete's strengths and what they did well during the game. Then, they can provide constructive feedback, pointing out areas where the athlete can improve. Finally, they can end with positive feedback, reinforcing the athlete's strengths and encouraging them to work on the areas for improvement.

  2. Goal-setting: The Feedback Burger model can also be used to set goals for athletes. Coaches can start by providing positive feedback, highlighting the athlete's strengths and what they have accomplished so far. Then, they can provide constructive feedback, identifying areas where the athlete can improve and setting goals for improvement. Finally, they can end with positive feedback, reinforcing the athlete's strengths and encouraging them to work towards their goals.

  3. Training: During training sessions, coaches can use the Feedback Burger model to provide feedback to athletes. They can start with positive feedback, highlighting what the athlete did well during the session. Then, they can provide constructive feedback, pointing out areas where the athlete can improve their technique or performance. Finally, they can end with positive feedback, reinforcing the athlete's strengths and encouraging them to continue working hard.

The Feedback Burger model is an excellent tool for athletics development in Bermuda. By using this model, coaches, trainers, and mentors can provide valuable feedback to athletes while also building a positive relationship with them. The NSGB’S can use the Feedback Burger model in several ways, including performance evaluation, goal-setting, and training. By using this model, the group can help athletes develop and excel in their respective sports, making Bermuda a force to be reckoned with in the sporting world.
